Abstract:

The result of a major research project on macroeconomic policy in South Africa, the proposals outlined in this book will most likely form the basis for future South African macroeconomic policy under an African National Congress government. Through a critical appraisal of policies under apartheid and the policies endorsed by the present government, the editors argue for a complete overhaul of the South African economy. They present a framework that will allow sustainable growth while providing jobs, housing, education, and health-care well into the next century.
